Outstanding in the Field

Here's some more info about Outstanding in the Field: http://outstandinginthefield.com/

"Our mission is to re-connect diners to the land and the origins of their food, and to honor the local farmers and food artisans who cultivate it.

Outstanding in the Field is a roving culinary adventure – literally a restaurant without walls. Since 1999 we have set the long table at farms or gardens, on mountain tops or in sea caves, on islands or at ranches.

Ingredients for the meal are almost all local (sometimes sourced within inches of your seat at the table!) and generally prepared by a celebrated chef of the region. After a tour of the site, we all settle in: farmers, producers, culinary artisans, and diners sharing the long table."

Enjoying Summer

We're finally finding some time to get out and enjoy the things that attracted us to Utah in the first place, like hikes in the mountains. Well...not so much hikes, more like leisurely strolls along well established paths. But at least we're in the mountains! Tess doesn't like to be carried so long as Max in on the ground walking, sort of makes it hard to get anywhere fast. We'll get there...

We also got out on the water, which wasn't one of the things that attracted us to Utah...as there are only about 3 lakes withing a 50 mile radius of us. Thanks to our friends and their boat, we had a pretty great day out on the water. Max loved it, even being brave enough to jump in the pretty cold mountain snow fed lake. Although, I think he enjoyed being "captain" of the boat the best. That put a pretty big smile on his face when he wasn't concentrating on captaining.

Try not to let your heart melt.

The race

Racing the Mountain Aire Mile. from Tristan Shepherd on Vimeo.

The kids were in a race the other weekend. It wasn't so much a race for us, more of a leisurely stroll while Max rode circles around us, but fun either way.

Crazy daredevil

Mere minutes after I took this, the little lady decided she was big enough to get herself out of the cart by herself. A 4' head-dive headfirst onto the floor was the result. I giant goose egg just above her forehead is what she has to show for it. She's a tough little one though and seems to be doing just fine.
